The Human Papillomavirus, or HPV, is known in some regions as the most prevalent STD. This virus, which is in many ways responsible for causing an equally high number of cervical cancer cases, has many strains and types, with many of them being able to cause warts in many critical areas of the human body, even in the larynx of the human respiratory tract.
The virus may be detected via Pap smears or other methods of testing, including Digene, which is approved by the US FDA to be a primary screening tool which is able to detect high-risk forms of HPV which may very well lead to cervical cancer. A current and unfortunate fact is that there in no formal or commercially available test for men to use to determine if they are infected with HPV. The only real way for them to detect HPV as of the moment is to attempt to check for genital warts, sometimes with vinegar solutions.
