Working against HPV in British Columbia 513 2 OF 3
If HPV can be prevented, it would in the form of HPV vaccines. It has been reported that in British Columbia in particular, young women can rest easy in the fact that there have been moves for them to be inoculated with HPV vaccine as soon as next year.
It would actually be girls in the grade levels of 6 and 9 who should be receiving vaccines. The vaccine, Gardasil in particular, was shown to provide adequate and potent protection against four strains of HPV which can be very compromising to the body, if not lethal. It can only do its work on the human body before the patient actually becomes sexually active. Gardasil has been approved by Health Canada last year.
There are some issues, however, regarding the vaccine and its related program. Greg Smith, known as the executive director of the movement named Options for Sexual Health, has stated the following: “…this could send the wrong message to young girls about the kind of sexual behavior that is endorsed.”
MORE TO COME!
