HOPE FOR ECZEMA PATIENTS 2 0F 3
One important thing to remember is that eczema patients must not scratch the itch. Creams and lotions are the most common treatment for itches as these will be able to keep the skin as moist as it can be. Corticosteroid creams may also be used in order to reduce inflammation. For infected skin, doctors will prescribe antibiotics to banish the bacteria. Sedative antihistamines may also be used for severe itching.
Phototherapy and tar treatments are also two alternatives that patients may want to consult their doctor about. Phototherapy has a need for special equipment, though, and tar treatments are messy. If the eczema remains to be resistant to the therapies, a drug called cyclosporine may be prescribed by the doctor to the patient. This drug alters the response of the immune system. The drawback, however, is that it’s been associated with serious side effects and thus must be utilized only in extreme cases.
