The Open Directory Project is a human edited Web Directory. It is otherwise known as dmoz which is derived from its original domain name: directory.mozilla.org. The Open Directory Project is a multilingual web directory providing a comprehensive list of World Wide Web links owned by Netscape.
A Web Directory is a service that provides a list of links that correspond to websites that fall into a certain category. It is important to remember that Web Directories are different from other search engines. Web Directories do not look for keyword rich articles or web entries, instead they provide a list of links that are relevant to the item being searched. Web Directories are most helpful when people are looking extensive data about a subject that only a topic dedicated site can provide. One of the most well known web directories is the Open Directory Project.
