The World Wide Web Virtual Library – the first web directory 3 OF 3

The council accepts and invites volunteer Virtual Library Maintainers. The process of acceptance as a Maintainer may take some time. It has even resulted in protest as to why it takes so long. Because of its Human-Edited nature, the World Wide Web Virtual Library is also being criticized for it accurateness and fairness. This is countered by the sites proponents with the idea that there are other maintainers that have noble intentions for the World Wide Virtual Library and that these maintainers will be able to correct, edit or remove malicious content.
The World Wide Web Virtual Libraries search engine was first created by Gabriel Fenteany during his stay in Harvard. The server was then moved to a different location where it fell victim to hacking, as a result the World Wide Web Virtual Library was without a server until early in year 2005.
The World Wide Web Virtual Library is also known as the WWWVL, VL or simply as the Virtual Library.
