Web Directories VS. RSS Site Directories 2 OF 2

Tag: Web Articlesadmin @ 2:18 am

The latter of the two can most probably define RSS the simplest way possible. It means that RSS is a summary of what you will find on the website, blog or a summary of the latest breaking news. An RSS feed is far more complicated than a simple link; an RSS feed provides you with a window into the certain website, blog, etc.
RSS feeds have been growing in popularity because they are an easy, simple and free way of advertising without having to use complicated ads. It provides a way for people to keep up with their favorite websites that is as easy as going to the website manually.
In a nutshell – RSS feeds make keeping up with your preferred sites easier. Most blog sites now offer RSS feed options to their users and getting access to an RSS feed of your favorite site is as easy as clicking on the RSS icon. The RSS icon is represented by an orange button that has two distinct white curves that start from a white dot at the lower left hand corner.
RSS Site Directories work the same way as a Web Directory. The only obvious difference is that you search for RSS feeds on the former and Websites in the latter. RSS Site Directories and Web Directories are respectable in their own right. Their functions may seem similar but the chance that they will overlap is pretty rare. If you are looking for a specific website that will cater to what you need, then go ahead and make use of a Web Directory. If you need to know updates and the latest news on a certain item or category an RSS Site Directory will be much more helpful.

If there are Web Directories; there also are RSS Site Directories. Users are often confused as to which service will give what they need. Fact is, although they may seem alike, Web Directories and RSS Sites Directories function differently.
Web Directories provide users with a comprehensive list of websites that can be search depending on categories. Most Web Directories are general in scope, meaning that they cater to most any type of website. Other Web Directories provide lists of websites that fall under a certain category – these types of directories are called niche directories. Niche Directories can provide listings on websites from a certain region or websites in a certain language.
A Web Directory is not a keyword search engine. It looks for websites that correspond to the data that you enter in the search window. Some web directories allow you to customize your search results, by having them arranged chronologically, by relevance, etc. Some people find using web directories more helpful compared to keyword searches especially if they are looking for extensive data on a certain topic that only a website dedicated to it can provide.
RSS is a form of a web feed that provides the latest news about websites and blogs. It is also made to deliver short headlines on the latest news available. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and Rich Site Summary.

Different directories have different ways of dealing with free submissions. Most of them are truly free and the website included has no responsibility to the directories. Some websites however impose a few extra rules: a Reciprocal Link - a reciprocal link means that the website listed in the web directory will have a link that goes back to the web directory. It is most of the time harmless, but if the site thrives on the importance of ad space – a link can take up much needed space for other paying ads. A reciprocal link is the opposite of a No Follow Attribute this means that websites simply post the link and that the search engine will not follow the link.

When it comes to keyword search engines and other general search engines there is no need for webmasters to submit the website names, what they have to do is see to it that their sites will be picked up during keyword searches. This is often achieved by posting as many keyword articles, reports, stories, etc. that are sure to generate traffic. Web Directories are different, webmasters have to submit their names to the editors of the site, or they could hope that an editor would take notice of their site and put in on the Web Directory’s roster.

Choices for web directories fall into two categories: Paid and Free. With paid web directories, the parameters are clear. Webmasters pay the directories and in turn their websites are included in the directory’s roster – simple as that – no strings attached. What about free web directories? It is really free? Most of the time it is, but as a result – webmasters would have to settle for what a free subscription entails.

Most websites gauge their profit on the number of times they get a hit. It means that the greater the traffic drawn a site, the greater the profit. That is the reason why webmasters clamor to get their site names in as many search engines and web directories as much as possible. Another way to generate traffic to a site is to carry keyword rich articles that can be easily picked up by keyword search engines.

Before we go any further, it is important to understand how websites generate income – even bloggers and websites that offer free services. The answer to this is ADVERTISING. Try going to a free website and you will find tons of ads. Ad companies pay for time displayed in a website because they know that their ads would be viewed by all the people who frequent these sites. The more traffic a website generates results in the site’s ability to command higher prices from their advertisers. The responsibility to generate traffic lie on the shoulders of the webmasters and one of the best ways to generate traffic is to get your site’s name out there. Another way of getting your name out there, other than keyword rich articles is to have the site’s name included in web directories.
